Panda Zoo
The Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Center is one of the biggest if not the biggest centers in the world for pandas and is truly unique. The base has serves several purposes, and has a research lab, panda kindergarten, museum and adult panda areas. Presently there are 45 pandas living at the base and other type of animals, such as the red panda. The red panda looks like a small red raccoon but is very cute to look at. The baby giant pandas are kept in the kindergarten until they are three years old, then they are moved to the adult area. Presently, there is only one baby panda less than one year old at the zoo and she is named Jing Jing in honor of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Visitors to the area can also have their picture taken with the baby panda for a certain price. The best time to visit the center is in the morning when the pandas are awake and active. The pandas spend the majority of the day sleeping, and when they are active, they love to eat; more than 95% of their diet is bamboo. It is very fun and interesting to watch as the pandas chomp away at the bamboo during their breakfast.
