Yangtze River Bridge

Determining the feasibility of and planning the overhaul of the Nanjing Yangtze Bridge will start soon, according to Mao Limin, office director of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge Administration. The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, was the first Chinese-designed bridge to span the country's longest river, will undergo its first major overhaul since it was built more than thirty years ago. The overhaul has been proposed several times in the past but has always had to be put off due to the irreplaceable role of the bridge in cross-Yangtze traffic.
With the opening of a second bridge over the Yangtze in the region last March, the long-delayed overhaul can begin. The Nanjing Yangtze Bridge is one of the longest bridges in China and a prominent landmark in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province. Built in 1968, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge has a double-decked structure. The upper deck for highway traffic measures 4,589 meters long and 15 meters wide, while the lower deck is used for railway traffic and is 6,772 meters long and 14 meters wide.
