Tour Itinerary
In the morning your guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to visit the Tibetan Hospital and then Jokhang Temple, the sacred land of Buddhist pilgrims. The temple here was built in 647 and is the earliest wood masonry structure that still exists in Tibet. After lunch you will visit the Potala Palace, the winter home of the Dalai Lamas. The palace was built in 637 by Songtsen Gampo, the first king of the united Tibet. Afterwards you will visit the Drepung Monastery, the home of the Gelukpa Sect of Buddhism. This was constructed in 1416 and the second through fourth Dalai Lamas lived here. Later that night you will be brought back to your hotel for the rest of the evening.

The Jokhang Temple was built in 647 A.D. by craftsmen from Tibet, China and Nepal to celebrate the marriage of the Tang Princess Wencheng and the Tubo King Songtsen Gampo.

The Drepung Monastery was founded by Jamyang Chojey Tashi-pelden, a disciple of the founder of the Gelug Sect. The monastery was founded in 1416 A.D. according to the Theravadin system of reckoning due to the request by the political leader of Central Tibet.
