Tour Itinerary
Today's Activity: No.1 Silk Factory, Cruise on Grand Canal, Pan Gate.
In the morning you will be picked up at your hotel and visit the No.1 Silk Factory. Here you will learn the entire process of making silk and how to turn the silks into clothes and quilts. Afterwards you will take a rickshaw ride around town. It will give you a feeling of stepping back to ancient times. After lunch you will then take a boat ride on the Grand Canal that goes around the outer city. While taking the cruise you will make a stop at Pan Gate, one of eight gates in Suzhou built by Wu Zixu. Afterwards you will be driven back to your hotel for the remainder of the evening.

Silk is a very important commodity and trading item in China, every since the beginning of the Silk Road in Eastern China. The Chinese discovered ways of making clothes from silk and these clothes soon became popular. Silk Culture is the practice of raising silkworms and unwinding the cocoons.

The canal, first constructed during the Late Spring and Autumn Period, is over 1,400 years old and is 1,794 kilometers long. The canal connects five large rivers in China and runs through six provinces.
