Trip Highlights - This Yinchuan Zhongwei Tour is a side trip from Yinchuan to Zhongwei. Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, lies in the central section of Ningxia Plain, with the Yellow River to the east and Helan Mountain to the west. Zhongwei City is located in the west of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is 160 kilometer and only a few hours by bus to the southeast of Yinchuan near the Yellow River. The city of Zhongwei is located in the most westerly part of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, in that triangular-shaped stretch of land where Ningxia meets Gansu Province to the south and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1:Yinchuan / Zhongwei (L/D)
In the morning you will head from Yinchuan and drive to Zhongwei County. You will visit Gaodun Lake, Gao Temple and Tengger Desert. After the sightseeing you will stay in a local 4-star hotel.

Day 2:Zhongwei / Yinchuan (B/L)
Today you will leave Zhongwei and drive to Shapotou. Once there you will board a sheepskin raft and head down the Yellow River to visit the Singing Sand Slope. At the Singing Sand Slope you are able to hop on a camel and ride around the desert and enjoy the scenery. Afterwards you will drive back to the airport and go to your next destination.

Shapotou is just south of the Tengger Desert and north of the Yellow River. The sand dune has flowing water and vegetation and tourists can climb the top of the sand dune and slide down, hearing a unique phenomenon. Tourists can also go dinghy surfing and camel riding in the area.
The Gao Temple, located in Zhongwei, caters to Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Inside the temple can be seen statues of the Holy Mother, Jade Emperor and Gautama Buddha, among others.
The Tengger Desert, which covers an area of 36,700 sq. kilometers, is full of endless sand dunes and there is almost no life to be seen. However, there are around 400 lakes dispersed throughout the desert.
