Id Kah Mosque
The Id Kah Mosque is located in the west of the Id Kah Square of Kashgar in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The Id Kah Mosque covers an area of 16,800 square meters, with 140 meters long from south to north and 120 meters from east to west. As an ancient Islamic complex, the Id Kah Mosque is not only the largest one in Xinjiang, but also one of the largest in China with distinct ethnic and religious feature. The Id Kah Mosque hosts the Kurban Festival and Fast-breaking Festival every year. It is the activity center of the Muslims in Kashgar since long, that' why the Mosque are filled with people every day for those who wish to pray, especially on Friday afternoon's when people from all over Xinjiang come to for the special prayer service.
Built in 1442 by Saqsiz Mirza, the Id Kah Mosque is large enough to hold up to 8,000 people. The tower of the mosque has several floral carving patterns, mainly in green and the gate of the tower faces the square. The roof of the tower is held by blue pillars that form a rectangular shape. There are also carvings and pictures that can be found along the roof. The main gate of the Id Kah Mosque is built with yellow bricks and jointed by white gypsum with 4.7 meters high and 4.3 meters wide. The gate is 12.6 meters high at the main entrance, and the towers on both sides are almost 18 meters high. It is a great travel destination in the Northwest China.
