The North Mausoleum
The North Mausoleum, built in 1643 for Emperor Huangtaji and his wife Empress Xiaoduanwen, combines ancient Manchurian and Chinese architectural styles. The North Mausoleum is located north of Shenyang and covers a total of 4.5 million sq. meters. There are three main parts to the North Mausoleum and inside there are several buildings: Baocheng Town, Dahong Gate, Yueyacheng Town, Daming Pavilion and several others. Inside the North Mausoleum there are also Steles that are written in five different languages.
All of the people buried here are ancestors of the Qing Dynasty Emerpor Abahai and his wife with the most famous being Huang Taji. He helped his father unify different parts of China and established the Qing regime. After fighting for several years, he became emperor and changed the title of the dynasty from Jin to Great Qing. He later died at the age of 52.
