Tibet Museum
The Tibet Museum, opened in 1999, is the first museum with modern features displaying the brilliant thousands of years history and splendid culture of TIbet. Located to the southeast of Norbulingka in lhasa, the Tibet Museum covers an area of 53959 square meters with a constuction area amounting to 23508 square meters. The architecture of Tibet Museum is a combination of Tibetan and Chinese styles, which carries not only distinctive features of Tibetan traditional architectures but also the practicability of modern buildings. The Tibet Museum showcases over 1,000 objects in terms of several different categories: Prehistory, Indivisible History, Cultural Arts and People's culture. The Prehistory exhibition in the museum covers the history of Tibet from 50,000 to 3,000 years ago, and expresses the life of the ancient people of the Tibetan plateau with a large number of characteristic stone tools, pottery, bone objects and metal objects.
The Tibet Museum also shows the cultural origins of the precursors of the Tibetan people as well as the connections with the central plains civilization and Indus River civilization. The Indivisible History section demonstrate the relations between the Tibet regional powers and the Chinese central government during the dynastic era and proves that Tibet has been an inalienable part of China by a quantaity of historical relative items. The third exhibition hall of the Tibet Museum is the Cultural Arts section which shows the splendid Tibetan culture and the influence of Chinese culture with a large collection of documents, paitings, handicrafts, thankas, and other stuff. The last section of the Tibet Museum is the People's Culture, where the Tibetan folk culture, daily life, customs and so forth.
