Zhaojun Tomb
Zhaojun Tomb was built for Wang Zhaojun, one of four famous beauties of ancient China. Zhaojun Tomb which located on the bank of Dahei River nine kilometers (5.6 miles) to the south of Hohhot is one of top eight popular travel spots in Hohhot. The tomb tells a moving story from some 2,000 years ago. Regarded as the one of the four most beautiful women in Chinese history, Wangzhaojun was once a female attendant in the Imperial Palace during the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 24 A.D.). Then she was arranged to get married with the king of the Huns - Huhanxie Chanyu, for the political reason. Though the marriage was off Zhaojun’s own free will, she still brought the culture of Central China Plain to the Hun people and promote the exchanges between two cultures.
Futurity then built this tomb to memorize her great contribution to tying up the friendship between Han and Hun. Today, many Chinese are still moved by this story and come to visit. Recently, the tomb area has been developed to include cultural facilities and has now become one of the key cultural relics under the jurisdiction of Hohhot.
