The Slovak Republic, short form Slovakia, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe with a population of over 5.4 million and an area of about 49,035 square kilometres. The largest city is the capital, Bratislava. Slovakia is a high-income advanced economy with one of the fastest growth rates in the EU and OECD. Slovakia is a parliamentary democratic republic with a multi-party system. The art of Slovakia can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when some of the greatest masterpieces of the country's history were created. It developed diplomatic relation with China on January 1, 1993. The national day is Augest 29th.
