Shanhaiguan Great Wall
Shanhaiguan (Shanhai Pass), 15 kilometers from the tourist city of Qinhuangdao, became known as the "First Pass under Heaven" since ancient times. Shanhai Pass, got its name from being situated between the Yanshan Mountains and the Bohai Sea. It is a major pass of the Great Wall, with strategic importance at its eastern beginning. Laolongtou, meaning "Old Dragon's Head" in Chinese is the place where the wall itself meets the Pacific Ocean at Bohai Sea. Shanhaiguan Pass consists of a main castle, two supporting castles one in the north and one in the south, and two semicircular protective walls in front of the main castle, the town of Weiyuan and the town of Ninghai.
